In a historic moment on the 3rd of October, young Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal made history during Team India’s inaugural match at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. At the age of 21, Jaiswal, a left-handed batter, achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the youngest Indian cricketer to score a century in T20 International (T20I) matches.
Jaiswal, who represents the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), had previously made his T20I debut for India in August against the West Indies.
During the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, Jaiswal formed a formidable opening partnership with Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Together, they amassed a century-run stand before Gaikwad was dismissed. However, Jaiswal remained undeterred, continuing his exceptional form to reach a remarkable century, a first for an Indian male cricketer in the Asian Games.
At the age of 21 years and 179 days, Jaiswal not only secured the distinction of being the youngest Indian to score a T20I century but also became the first Indian male cricketer to achieve a century in the Asian Games cricket competition. He reached his century by taking a single on the fifth ball of the 16th over.
Throughout his innings, Jaiswal showcased his batting prowess, tallying 8 boundaries and sending 7 balls soaring over the boundary for sixes. His outstanding performance played a pivotal role in India’s dominance in the match.
